These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the TempoTango browser
extension (the "Extension") and the website at tempotango.co (together,
the "Service"). The Service is operated by TempoTango ("TempoTango", "we", "us", or
"our"). By installing, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you
do not agree, do not use the Service.
TL;DR. TempoTango is a tool that estimates the BPM and key of audio playing in your SoundCloud tab. The first 10 analyses are free; after that a one-time $14.99 license unlocks unlimited use. We're not affiliated with SoundCloud. Results are estimates, provided "as is", and you use them at your own discretion. Payments are handled by Lemon Squeezy. Be reasonable and these Terms will never matter to you.
1. What the Service does
TempoTango is a Chrome extension that captures a short sample of audio from your active SoundCloud tab and estimates its tempo (BPM) and musical key, displaying the result in traditional and Camelot-wheel notation. All audio processing happens locally on your device. See our Privacy Policy for details on data handling.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your jurisdiction, if higher) to use the Service. By using the Service you represent that you meet this requirement and that you have the legal capacity to agree to these Terms.
3. License to use the Extension
Subject to these Terms, TempoTango grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the Extension for your own use. This is a license, not a sale of the software itself; we retain all rights in the Extension that are not expressly granted to you.
You agree not to:
- copy, redistribute, sell, rent, sublicense, or resell the Extension or your license key;
- reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Extension, except to the extent this restriction is prohibited by applicable law;
- circumvent, disable, or tamper with the free-tier limit, license-key validation, or any other technical measure in the Extension;
- use the Service to infringe anyone's rights or to violate any law or any third party's terms of service.
4. Free tier and paid license
TempoTango includes a free tier of 10 track analyses. After you reach that limit, continued use requires a one-time purchase of a lifetime license for $14.99 USD (price subject to change for future purchasers). The purchase unlocks unlimited analyses on the device(s) where you activate your license key.
Your license key is personal to you. Sharing, publishing, or distributing your key is a breach of these Terms and may result in the key being revoked without refund.
5. Payments
Payments are processed by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the merchant of record for purchases of TempoTango. When you buy a license, your transaction is subject to Lemon Squeezy's own terms and privacy policy in addition to these Terms. TempoTango does not receive or store your full payment-card details. Any applicable sales tax or VAT is handled by Lemon Squeezy at checkout.
6. Refunds
The 10 free analyses are intended to let you evaluate the Service before paying. Because of this, the paid license is generally considered non-returnable once issued. That said, we handle refund requests on a case-by-case basis and want you to be happy with your purchase. If something isn't working or you bought by mistake, email us at [email protected] and we'll work it out. Because Lemon Squeezy is the merchant of record, refunds are issued through Lemon Squeezy.
7. Accuracy and "as is" nature of results
BPM and key detection are estimates produced by automated audio analysis. They can be affected by audio quality, genre, complex or ambiguous harmonic content, and other factors. TempoTango does not warrant that any result is accurate, complete, or suitable for any particular purpose, including professional DJing or music production. You are responsible for verifying any result before relying on it. The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
8. Relationship with SoundCloud and third parties
TempoTango is an independent tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by SoundCloud or any music platform, label, or rights holder. "SoundCloud" and other names are the trademarks of their respective owners. Your use of SoundCloud remains governed by SoundCloud's own terms of service, and you are responsible for complying with them. You agree to use the Extension only with audio you are entitled to access, and not to use it to infringe the rights of any artist, label, or platform.
The Extension bundles essentia.js, which is licensed under AGPL-3.0 and used in accordance with that license.
9. Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the Service, including by attempting to gain unauthorized access to it, interfering with its normal operation, using it to build a competing dataset or product through automated scraping, or using it for any unlawful purpose. We may suspend or terminate access for conduct that breaches these Terms.
10. Intellectual property
The Extension, the website, the TempoTango name and logo, and all related content (other than third-party components under their own licenses) are owned by TempoTango and protected by intellectual property laws. Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of any of it to you.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, TempoTango will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or relating to your use of (or inability to use) the Service. To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you actually paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) USD $20. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.
12. Changes to the Service and these Terms
We may update, change, or discontinue the Service (or any part of it) at any time. We may also update these Terms from time to time; when we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Material changes take effect when posted, and your continued use of the Service after that constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to a change, stop using the Service.
13. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time by uninstalling the Extension. We may suspend or terminate your license if you materially breach these Terms. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and governing law) will continue to apply.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You agree that the state and federal courts located in North Carolina will have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service, and you consent to their jurisdiction. Nothing in this section affects any non-waivable statutory rights you have as a consumer in your country of residence.
